End of the Mid-year Review
Sunday, August 21, 2011 || 8:39 PM

Now it's 8.15PM, so I'm blogging here about the Mid-Year Review today. Sorry for the late post cause I came back at 3.30PM and I have to shower, eat and stuff. So, yeahh! moving on, today was great. cause we had a lot of fun and we learn new techniques. I'll now write bout what we did today. So... in the morning, we reached the badminton court about 8.15AM, we were quite early cause it starts at 9.00AM. Since we were so early, we had our breakfast. Milo, bread and some had mineral water. After eating our breakfast, we had a photography session and it's bout 2 minutes maybe?. Continuing, we had to do our JUNIOR pattern. It was only Chon-Ji & Dan-Gun. The master, Master Bobby Teo was talking a lot of stuff about the two pattern. He teached us how to have SPEED & MASS. Yes, okay...back to the story, then we had 10 minutes rest then we had to go back to our rolls and learn. After like 45 minutes, we went to lunch near the badminton. The food was good! We are given lunch for an hour and half. All of us was so full. Then we got our certificate and medals for attending. Yeahh, then we learned self-defence from Master Leon. He teached for an hour. Moving on, we got to watch the seniors and juniors performing their patterns and self-defence. Then the seniors as in black belt were given a chance to punch or chop the roof. It was great. Then it's time to go home. It's was a really tiring day but it's worth it. :)

Patterns.
Saturday, August 20, 2011 || 1:35 PM

Chon-Ji (white-yellow belt)
Chon-Ji has 19 movements, Chon-Ji means literally 'the Heaven the Earth'. It is, in the Orient, interpreted as the creation of the world or the beginning of human history, therefore it is the initial pattern played by the beginner. This pattern consists of two similar parts; one to represent the Heaven and the other Earth.

Dan-Gun (yellow belt)
Dan-Gun has 21 movements, and Dan-Gun is named after the holy Dan-Gun, the legendary founder of Korea in the year of 2,333 B.C.

Do-San (yellow-green belt)
Do-San has 24 movements, and it is a pseudonym of the patriot Ahn Chang-Ho. The 24 movements represent his entire life, which he devoted to furthering education in Korea and the Korean independence movement.

Won-Hyo (green belt)
Won-Hyo has 28 movements, and it is named after the noted monk Won-Hyo who introduced Buddhism to the Silla Dynasty in the year 686 AD.

Yul-Gok (green-blue belt)
Yul-Gok contains 38 movements and it is a pseudonym of a great philosopher and scholar Yil nicknamed the 'Confucius of Korea'. The 38 movements of this pattern refer to his birthplace on 38-degree latitude and the diagram of the pattern represents scholar.

Joong-Gun (blue belt)
Joong-Gun has 32 movements, and it's named after the patriot Ahn Joong-Gun who assassinated Hirobumi Ito, the first Japanese governor general of Korea, known as the man who played the leading part in the Korea-Japan merger. There are 32 movements in the pattern to represent Mr Ahn's age when he was executed at Lui-Shung Prison in 1910.

Toi-Gye (blue-red belt)
Toi-Gye contains 37 movements and Toi-Gye is the pen name of the noted scholar Yi Hwang (16 century AD), an authority on neo-Confucianism. the 37 movements of the pattern refer to his birthplace on 37 degree latitude, the diagram represents 'scholar'.

Hwa-Rang (red belt)
Hwa-Rang contains 29 movements, and it's named after the Hwa-Rang youth group, which orginated in the Silla Dynasty in the early 7th century. The 29 movements refer to the 29th Infantry Divison, where Taekwon-Do developed into maturity.

Choong-Moo (red-black belt)
Choong-Moo has 30 movements and the name was given to the great Admiral Yi-Sun-sin of the Yi Dynasty. He was reputed to have invented the first armored battleship (kobukson) in 1592, which is said the be the precursor the present day submarine. The reason this pattern ends with a left hand attack is to symbolize his regrettable death having no chance to show his unrestrained potentially checked by the forced reservation of this loyally to the King.
